| The Ohio Glass Museum was incorporated in 2002, and major construction has been underway since October of 2004. The Museum was established to reflect the importance of the glassmaking industry in the history of Lancaster and Fairfield County. Fairfield County has been home to over 40 different glass companies over the years, and this rich history will be featured in the Ohio Glass Museum. The abundant supplies of natural gas and sandstone in this area made it a logical choice for the establishment of the glass making industry. In 2003, the Ohio legislature designated Lancaster as the “Pressed Glass Capital" of Ohio. | ||
| The Museum hopes to take visitors through the development and production of all type of glass, including industrial glass, pressed glass, hand-blown glass and art glass. Exhibits will feature glass from local companies, but will also include glassware from other companies around the state and even around the country. Future plans include a glass-blowing studio where visitors will be able to watch artisans create glass on site. | ||
| The Ohio Glass Museum Gift Shop opened in 2005, and is now open daily. The Gift Shop features something for all tastes, including assorted Anchor-Hocking and Lancaster Glass pieces, as well as art and collectible glass by companies such as Erickson, Heisey, Fostoria, Fenton, Imperial, Blenko and many others. | ||
